Jose holds a PhD in electrical engineering (cum laude) from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and has significant experience in wind turbine modelling with DIGSILENT PowerFactory and MATLAB/Simulink, specially full
power converter wind turbines. He also has experience in power system stabiliser capability for wind turbines.
Head of Innovation - Global Infrastructure & Networks
Santiago Cascante holds an Msc in Industrial Engineering (UPC - Spain ), a Master in Project Management (URL - Spain ), and a Master in Business Administration (EBS-HWU - Scotland UK). He has broad professional experience in international energy markets, collaborating with companies such as Siemens and Schneider Electric in France. For seven years he was Innovation and Technology Manager at Endesa, where he developed different innovation activities and new business models, as well as created different cooperation and open innovation models with global and local ecosystems. An example of this are research centers such as IREC, where he acted for two years as Technology Transfer Director.
Currently, Santiago is acting as Head of Innovation for the Global Business Lines Infrastructure & Networks (DSO) Group at ENEL. He has associated professor experience at UPC, ICAI and ESADE, and is a member of different professional associations. Santiago has extensive experience as a speaker at several International symposiums.
Head of Digital Transformation
TenneT B.V., The Netherlands
Rene Kerkmeester is currently designing and implementing the corporate Digital Transformation Programme for TenneT in Germany and the Netherlands. He is positioning TenneT in a new emerging electricity market landscape characterised by a more volatile and decentral ecosystem whilst delivering business improvements by advancing the use of data and analytics.
Previously, Rene was CEO at APX, Europe's premier provider of power exchange and clearing services for the wholesale market, operating transparent platforms in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Belgium. Rene served at the Board of Directors of Powernext, a regulated investment firm based in Paris which designs and operates state-of-the-art electronic trading platforms for spot and derivatives markets in the European energy sector.
He was Director at BritNed Development Ltd, a joint Venture between National Grid and TenneT. Prior to this he was Senior Manager of Customers and Markets with TenneT TSO in the Netherlands, where he was responsible for TenneTs customer development both throughout the Netherlands and abroad. In 2010/2011 he was the chairman of the ENTSO-E Regional Group North West Europe, an association of TSO's aiming to deliver the European Market integration. He is the former Commercial Director at NUON where he was responsible for NUON's grid throughout the Netherlands. He was also the Country Development Manager for Belgium during his time with NUON. Rene Is married and has two daughters.

Yamshid Farhat received his M.Sc. degree from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Energy Engineering focusing on the Electric System. He worked for his Master Thesis at the Aalborg University in the field of microgrids. He joined BKW's Smart Grid Engineering department in 2013 with a focus on the development of innovative products and concepts for the distribution network in order to allow higher penetration of renewable energies while reducing network investments and increase the quality of supply.
